About
The
Gippsland Lakes Harness Club is based in Central and East Gippsland ranging
from Stratford through to Lakes Entrance, northwards to Omeo and eastwards
to Nowa Nowa and Orbost.
Our
members drive all heights of horses/ponies from mini Shetlands to
Clydesdales.
The
Gippsland Lakes are one of the main holiday areas in East Gippsland
its principle town being Lakes Entrance which boasts many attractions
including Parks, Nature Sanctuaries, golf courses and other attractions
related to being located by the sea.
Travel
time to this area is about four hours east of Melbourne along the
Princes Highway.

What
is Carraige Driving
Carriage
Driving encompasses:
Show
Driving
Show
driving events are often termed harness classes. Usually seen
at agricultural shows and Royal shows and split into light and
heavy harness. In turnout, the harness, pony/horse, vehicle and
total appearance is taken into consideration when judged.
Classes in light harness can be based on horse/pony height, vehicle
type, whither the horses/ponies driven in singles or multiples,
and driver. Heavy harness classes are usually trade or business's
turnouts, and soften based on the vehicle.
Combined
Driving Events (CDE)
Said
to be "The most fun you can have sitting down" comprises of the
sections:
A.
Driven dressage
B.
Marathon, with obstacles
C.
Cones
Usually
held over a two days, and can be held indoors. It is similar to
ridden eventing. All equines have to be aged 4 and above to compete.

The
object of the dressage test is to judge the freedom, regularity
of pace, harmony, impulsion, suppleness, lightness, ease of movement
and correct bending of horses and ponies on the move.
This
can be a stand alone event or part of a CDE. The arena can be
100 x 40 m for open and multiples (more than 1 horse) or 80 x40m
for novice.
Pleasure
Driving
Drives,
for no other purpose than pleasure, to enjoy the countryside at
a leisurely pace. Often going on rail trails, private land and
even beaches. Usually ending in a lunch or a campfire with like-minded
company.
